[award advice] i need some help planning my 5 year anniversary.
This year is my 5 year anniversary with my wife. We weren't planning a trip but recently starting looking at point balances and calendars and realized we can take one! We have 112k American Airline miles on one account and 70k on another. We have 500k Marriott points. Our trip would be Jan 17th through Jan 22nd and we would leave out of Charlotte NC. We were thinking Caribbean and dont mind paying for an all inclusive resort (instead of using the Marriott points) but without a specific destination in mind that makes a lot of things to sift through. Any recommendations are welcome. Edit: to add a bit more context. we have done an all inclusive in the DR (Melia Caribe Tropical) and we have stayed at a Marriott property in Aruba. We have also done a cruise with Norwegian that went to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel. (we didn't enjoy Jamaica) we enjoyed Grand Cayman and Cozumel but were really only doing excursions. we liked the cruise well enough but i dont think she would go for another one at this point. in terms of what we want to do... i would like to snorkel or snuba but it isnt required. we really enjoy nice food and drink, thats usually where we spend most of our money on vacations. we like hanging at the pool reading and relaxing. when we go the the Caribbean we like to relax and not do much. (thats why the all inclusive sticks out)
Going to Aruba in March for honeymoon -- need suggestions!
My fiance and I just booked our honeymoon to Aruba for March 11-March 17 -- I already booked a reservation at the Kitchen Table (Fred's has no openings but I did inquire about whether or not they have a wait list) -- what else should we plan on doing while there? We are an active couple that loves food and he is scuba certified (I do not plan on being scuba certified before the trip but will happily sit in a boat if he goes on a scuba adventure). We are staying at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino (we booked with Marriott points and it was significantly less expensive than the Stellaris property).
Hi guys, I need your help to choose a hotel for 5/23 to 5/26 of this year. The two hotels are Hyatt Aruba and Marriott resort and Stellaris casino. I have Marriott Gold and Hyatt Explorist. The Hyatt Ocean and Pool view king bed french balcony- $1200 total. With added club access from the 4 I have available as an Explorist. I don't want to book with points because I'm saving UR for another redemption. The Marriott Premium ocean view king bed balcony Cash price is $1920. Or 130000 Marriott points plus $300 for the upgrade. I have 42000 SPG points that I plan to transfer to Marriott (wondering how long is the transfer) Plus 4000 UR(wondering about transfer times as well) Based on Tripadvisor the Marriott is ranked higher and I have a bad feeling about Hyatt for some reason although my last 3 vacations were at Hyatt. Would love some advice! Thank you in advance and let me know if something is not clear.
banging head against the wall—trying to book award seats on American
I am semi new to booking award travel so maybe I'm doing something wrong but I was searching for flights from DC area to either San Juan or Aruba. One flight came up BWI to PHL to AUA. I can drive to PHL in about 2 hours so I searched for PHL to AUA and instead of giving me that flight, now it wants go PHL>CLT>AUA or through Miami. or sometimes both with 2 connections!! WHY??????? This was just a spontaneous weekend trip because my friend has two free casino nights at either Ritz Carlton (or Marriott) San Juan or Aruba but the all flight options are terrible so I give up. It probably wasn't the best use of the miles anyway.
(M4F or M4M) GF cancelled, so who wants to go to Aruba? Free.
Hey guys, my girlfriend just broke up with me, but not before I could book us plane tickets and timeshares for 3 weeks in Aruba. May 26th through June 18th are the dates, and you can come for any of them. I have 1000 square foot one bedroom condos in Marriott Ocean Club Marriott Surf Club And Marriott's Renaissance Resort (with its own private island) May 26th - June 10th, you don't have to pay airfare if you can get to Flint, MI, I have that ticket for my girlfriend, and I should be able to change the name. If you want to go any other time for any length of time from May 26th through June 18th, you will have to pay for your own airfare. I booked this all beforehand for my girlfriend so you don't have to pay at all. I already bought everything. If you want to meet me before deciding to go, if you're close, I can meet you. You may be wondering why I am asking you.
First and foremost: all of my friends are complete losers and are scared to leave the country. I've already asked them.
Second: the ones who aren't cannot go for legitimate reasons, like small children, or they are out on business.
Third: Why the fuck not?
I am desperate, and need company in Aruba. It will be fun. EDIT: Apparently, this wasn't obvious, but I am serious. I really am offering a free (if you can get to Flint and I can get the name changed) trip to Aruba.
Caribbean Vacation - Help with specific destination?
Hello, My wife and I are looking to take a vacation in late July or late August to a location most likely in the Caribbean. I'll be utilizing Marriott points and United miles for this trip (no shortage of either) but was trying to finalize a location. I was hoping anyone with experiences might be willing to provide their input with any of the locations we are looking at. I already have a Marriott category 9 certificate for 7 nights so with that being said the locations we were looking at are as follows:
Bahamas - The Cove Atlantis
Grand Cayman - Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
US Virgin Islands (2) - Frenchman's Reef, or Frenchman's Cove
British Virgin Islands - Scrub Island Resort
Aruba (3) - Aruba Marriot & Stellaris Casino, Aruba Ocean Club, or Aruba Surf Club
It looks like I can get to all these destinations with United (although BVI will be a long day of travel). We're not looking for a ton of nightlife (clubs, bars etc) but would definitely like day activities (snorkling, hiking, shopping, site seeing, beaches). But also very important to us is dining. We're not opposed to going out to a lot of one off places and avoiding hotel restaurants if possible. Can anyone provide any insight with their experiences as to how any of these locations may be? Everywhere I look I get conflicting information and not sure if we would be making the right choice or not. I've heard Atlantis is expensive and very resort like. I've heard some good and bad about Frenchman's reef and Frenchman's Cove in St. Thomas but I hear you can easily go to gorgeous St. John or even to BVI from St. Thomas. I really appreciate any help and thank you in advance.
